BAM toasted 35 extraordinary years of DanceAfrica this past Sunday night at the DanceAfrica 35th Anniversary Celebration. Over 400 guests celebrated in the Lepercq Space following the afternoon's performance, including DanceAfrica founder and artistic director Baba Chuck Davis, the evening's performing companies and past alumni companies, New York State and City government officials, and BAM donors.

This year's DanceAfrica program features a record number of DanceAfrica alumni companies returning to BAM to celebrate this major anniversary. In addition to the always incredible onstage performances, throughout Memorial Day Weekend our neighborhood will be buzzing with the annual bazaar, a special art exhibit, cinema programs, a late night dance party, and more!
After an amazing opening performance, the festivities on Sunday continued well into the night at the after party with the artists. BAM's new Vice President of Education and Humanities, Stephanie Hughley, spoke briefly and acknowledged the Samuel H. Scripps Scholarship Award winners who had been honored earlier in the evening, as well as leadership from Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration, who are now in their 16th year of partnership with BAM for DanceAfrica.
